5 Outdoorsy Airbnbs North of NYC
What I Look For in an Airbnb Accommodation
When I search Airbnb for reservation options, I look for a few key factors. First, is there something catchy and unique about this accommodation that draws me to it? I usually try to find unique accommodations for a bit of fun and adventure; if I’m going to stay somewhere boring and drab I may as well just book a local hotel. Second, I look through the reviews. I prefer a place that will be safe and reliable and reviews show me that others have stayed here successfully (and enjoyed their stay). Finally, for many of my vacations, I’m looking for a getaway. Living in a concrete jungle, that means I want something secluded, peaceful, and has a way for me to connect with nature.
Here are some of the 5 most outdoorsy and intriguing New York Airbnb accommodations north of New York City (think Catskills, Adirondacks!)
Note: I try to provide a variety of “outdoorsy-ness” in the accommodations so there will be something for everyone. Photo source is Airbnb listing.
New York Airbnb for Outdoorsy People
This getaway is a great option for a large group of friends or big family (accommodates 14 people). For $175/night, this 6 bedroom home is a fantastic deal. It’s near the town of Catskill and as you can see, there are no neighbors right on top of you. The inside of the home is fairly wide open and large, making it a great place for your group to all have meals and time together in one place if the weather is less ideal for being outdoors. Unfortunately, this place is not pet friendly and there is also a 4 night minimum stay.
This house has such beautiful views of the Hudson River. It’s also located in Catskill so great proximity to outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing, even though you can enjoy the serenity of the outdoors without leaving the home! This rental has 4 bedrooms, accommodating up to 8 people. It is not pet friendly and has a 2 night minimum stay.
Alright, enough of the luxury accommodations and onto some places to stay that just feel like summer days at the cabin. This is an amazing log cabin home with river views, and the perfect size for a small family or couple to spend some time away from the city. This cabin also does not allow pets and has a 2 night minimum stay.
“The living room is vast and full of light with a view to the mountains; or grill on the porch and take in the fresh country air!” -Airbnb listing
You can’t find many places this unique! This is truly an opportunity to be in the wilderness without backpacking/camping. No tents required, just a climb up to your tree house for the night. Climb down the stairs and there’s some great outdoor space for grilling in the outdoor kitchen or just relaxing in the open air. Although there are 2 beds so a group of 4 could stay, it would be most comfortable just for a couple of people to stay. The tree house has a 2 night minimum stay and due to the nature of the accommodation, there are no pets allowed.
Ready to be really outdoorsy? This is the closest you can get to camping without camping! Stay in this tiny shelter called a yurt, truly enjoying what it means to be secluded. There are tons of nearby outdoor activities such as fishing and canoeing, or snowmobiling in the winter. Yes, you can stay in this yurt in the winter and it will keep you warm! A 2 night minimum stay, and while no cats are allowed, dogs are welcome to stay with you.
